Hana Kimi/Hanazakari no Kimitachi e

I’ve always heard about Hana Kimi before but I didn’t watch it because I’ve never been fond of dramas or movies with a lot of men trying to be cute. There went my prejudice again. But what made me watch Hana Kimi was the longing for something light and possibly fun. Truth was, I only wanted to watch the pilot episode. I think what kept me going was my curiosity for Ikuta Toma. I’ve just finished watching Maou then and I’ve read that he’s a great actor.
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e: Ikemen Paradaisu has proved that I have misjudged a lot of good things, again.
More than my curiosity for Ikuta, I was more hooked with his character as Nakatsu Shuichi. He was such a refreshing character, inside and out. Of course, credit goes to Ikuta’s great performance especially that I saw Nakatsu as just Nakatsu. I love those monologues and his interactions with everyone. Nakatsu was portrayed in a very unique way, which made me wonder if I’d feel the same if another actor played as Nakatsu. I also love that Nakatsu was into Footballl.

Albeit being a goofy character, Nakatsu has always been a sincere person.
I’ve thought that Horikita Maki’s character, Ashiya Mizuki, was lacking something. But that was only until I found out the real reason of her disguise and decision to study in Japan. I think her intention was sincere and that she did pretty well.
As for Sano Izumi (Oguri Shun), I couldn’t help but wonder what’s missing with this guy. I haven’t read the manga so I really don’t know and I don’t have any intention, so far, to watch the other versions to compare the actors playing the part. I’m just glad that albeit his personal issues, he was not one who exuded negative vibes like a dementor. I think I could credit such portrayal to Oguri. I’ve seen him in other J-Dramas and I could say he did pretty well.

The characters in Hana Kimi were so fun to watch that some of them made me change the way I think toward some actors. One of them was Mizushima Hiro as Nanba Minami, Dorm 1′s senpai. The other one was Yamamoto Yusuke playing Kayashima Taiki.
I’ve always thought that Mizushima Hiro was such an overrated actor. Among his dramas and movies, I’ve only liked him in Zettai Kareshi and Hana Kimi though I thought he was pretty decent, in acting, in Beck. Well, I actually loved Nanba-senpai. He was one true crazy person, and a womanizer too, but a great senpai. Definitely the most sensible among the three dorms’ leaders. Next to Nakatsu, I’d say my other favourite in Hana Kimi was Nanba-senpai.
It was only in Hana Kimi that I’ve come to like Yamamoto Yusuke. It was nice though knowing that he’s also worked with Horikita in Atashinchi no Danshi. It’s only here that I got to buy his character. I’m glad that one of my prejudices has come to an end, I guess. I hope it stays.
When I’ve finally finished the series, it only took me a couple of hours to miss Nakatsu Shuichi so much. I’d love to see more characters like him. And because of Nakatsu, I kind of appreciated Ikuta Toma.
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e Special
I was happy when I found out that there’s a special episode for Hana Kimi. However, I think it wasn’t that appealing though it did help us understand what happened “behind the scenes.” I’m just glad Nakatsu played Football in this special episode. It would’ve been better if he got to really play the sportFootball, especially after I found out that Ikuta plays midfield.
I really must be rooting on Nakatsu so much.
