Way Back Home

The film follows the story of two sisters, Ana Bartolome (Kathryn Bernardo) and Jessica Santiago (Julia Montes), who have been separated for twelve years and grew up in two totally different worlds.
I feel bad that I wasn’t able to watch it in theatres, but I am also happy that I didn’t. Had I watched in the movie theatre, I’d probably mess my shirt and soak my handkerchief in tears. I can’t remember the last time I shed tears because of a film.
Way Back Home is a very poignant film. It talks about family, values, friendship, and love. It talks about being lost and found, of losing and finding. I also like how the story was presented in a simple way, without trying too hard relaying its message. Its simplicity made this more effective.
If you were in the shoes of Ana, what would you do? How would you react? How would you assure the people around you of your love and devotion? I like how the character of Bernardo was light-spirited. I’m sure I’m lacking the correct term here.
I also like there was no tension between the two mothers except for wondering what would be their daughter’s decision. Surely, both families’ lives had been changed and rocked. I hope we’ll have more films like this, honest and simple yet poignant and thoughtful.
[I’ve just realized that Kathryn Bernardo had been playing roles of a long-lost-daughter. I have nothing against it. I just noticed. Hopefully, there will be a different role for her. For a change.]
